Not to be outdone by blink-182 re-introducing Take Off Your Pants and Jacket deep cuts “Online Songs” & “Roller Coaster” and their cover of Descendents’ “Hope” into their setlist for the first time in over 20 years, Green Day broke out their ’90s deep cut “Haushinka” for the first time since the ’90s at Santiago, Chile’s Parque Estadio Nacional on Saturday (8/30). It’s a pre-Dookie song that the band demoed and played live in ’92-’93 and eventually recorded for 1997’s Nimrod, and Billie Joe Armstrong said on stage, “I think that’s the first time we played that song since 1993 maybe.” (Though Setlist.fm says they also played in one time in 1997.) “And we do it because Santiago is special for us,” he continued.
The song still sounded great all these years later. Check out a video of Saturday’s performance below and compare it to audio of Green Day playing the song at 924 Gilman in 1992 below.
Green Day’s tour continues with more South American shows this month, followed by a few US festivals: Riot Fest, Oceans Calling, and Ohana. All dates & tickets here.
