Courtyard is an alternative indie pop-rock band from Guelph Canada who have won us over with their recently shared single “West Coast” via Goofball Wranglers.
The track is about “longing for adventure and connection”, delivered with a playfully delightful blend of surfy indie rock and pop with a beach-fronted sonic adventure in mind. The track has a high spirit with tropical influences that has plenty of classic funky pop grooves blended with some forward thinking modern flourishes to give it a fresh-faced feel and sparkle of its own.
Detailing the track further, the band adds:
The lyrics depict a longing for adventure and connection, as the narrator dreams of touring the west coast with a loved one. The imagery of surfing and playing music evokes a carefree lifestyle, while underlying emotions of frustration and disillusionment emerge. The mention of feeling cold and wet contrasts with the desire for warmth and companionship. The narrator expresses a sense of urgency and a need for escape from mundane realities, hinting at a complex relationship filled with both affection and irritation.
