Kneecap Keeps the Momentum Going on 90s-Inspired Rap-Techno Team Up with Paul Hartnoll “Sayōnara”

Kneecap, having teamed up with Paul Hartnoll of Orbital fame, is showing no signs of quieting down anytime soon on the self-described stand-alone single, “Sayōnara.”

You’d be hard-pressed to find a band that’s garnering as much controversy as Kneecap, with one of the members facing a UK terrorism offence and a court hearing that forced the rap trio to cancel their 15 sold-out US shows.

However, that hasn’t stopped them from dropping new music, their razor-sharp lyrics and in-your-face production intensifying while the heat is unable to deter them. “Sayōnara” is no different, taking cues from The Prodigy in a techo-rap hybrid that the trio has perfected in the past few years.

The single – released alongside a music video featuring Jamie-Lee O’Donnell, best known as Michelle from “Derry Girls” – is the type of song that would slide right in on the soundtrack of ‘90s movies like “Mortal Kombat.” The three unsurprisingly pack a punch on the song, wasting no time flowing over the nebulous production.

Said instrumental takes off in the last leg of “Sayōnara,” where each element of the single fires off on all cylinders. While to the point, there’s no denying how Kneecap has locked down their sound, having not stopped pumping out new music since they skyrocketed in the past year – and we’re all the better for it.
