From 2024 to 2025, the number of events with phone-free policies increased by 567%, according to data compiled by Eventbrite.
Phoneless dancefloors may not be an outlier for much longer if a report by Eventbrite is any indication. According to the ticketing platform’s global data, the number of events with the words “phone-free” in their title or description grew by a whopping 567% from 2024 and 2025.
No-phone policies first emerged as a curio of more specialist nightlife settings like those popular in Berlin. World-famous techno club Berghain famously pioneered the practice of stickering phone cameras, leading the way for around 90% of clubs in the German capital to impose some form of rules prohibiting phone use. Before long, London clubs like fabric and FOLD did as well.
It is perhaps unsurprising, then, that the UK led the trend by a wide margin over the time frame analyzed in Eventbrite’s report. The island nation saw a 1,200% increase in phone-free events from 2024-2025, along with a 1,441% rise in attendance of said events. This could arguably skew the data as UK users account for a significant chunk of Eventbrite’s total user base.
But even the US, where most of the platform’s users are located, reportedly saw a significant rise in phone-free events in the same period. The number of events fitting the description increased by 388%, with total attendance significantly outpacing that figure by 913%.
The trend reflects a broader shift in attitudes toward mobile technology. Humankind collectively started to snap out of its love affair with social media in the mid-2010s as research into its impact on mental health became more robust. The sentiment is more palpable than ever in the wake of the pandemic, with roughly 16% of gen Z opting for basic feature mobile devices instead of smartphones.
