Evergreen
Viet Cuong

In this sense, it serves as a companion piece or foil to Deciduous, written while the pain was still fresh. While loss may lead us to initially fixate on what is gone, remembering what remains – what has always been there, and what will continue to be – helps us move forward.

Set in a fast and steady 4/4, the piece unfolds at a single tempo, alternating between rhythmic motifs and soaring melodic lines that pass fluidly through the ensemble. Rich harmonies, orchestral textures, and colorful scoring lend a cinematic elegance, making it both musically rewarding and emotionally resonant. Suitable for high school and university ensembles, this stands as a tribute to the light we bring into each other’s lives – briefly shared but long remembered.
